Founding
The company that would become Lee Auto Malls was co-founded by Joseph Lifshitz and Lewis Bernstein in Auburn in 1936. Starting with $1,100 in cash and three used cars on consignment, "Advance Auto Sales" quickly grew to be the largest DeSoto-Plymouth dealership in Maine.
Under the leadership of Lifshitz's son, Shepard "Shep" Lee, Lee Auto Malls grew to become one of Maine's largest car dealership groups. Today, we are Maine's No. 1 volume auto dealer, with 14 new car franchises and 13 used car stores. The company is third-generation family-owned and operated: Adam Lee serves as Chairman of the Board and Donald Lee is company president. Life-long family friend John Isaacson is the company CEO.

Lee Auto Malls sells more used cars than any other dealer in Maine. We operate 13 stand-alone used car stores in Maine: Six LeeCars/Lee Credit Express stores in Augusta, Lewiston, Newport, Norway, Saco and Windham; and seven Lee Credit Now stores in Auburn, Bangor (2 Locations), Brewer, Ellsworth, Presque Isle and Waterville. Our used car inventory is the largest and most diverse in Maine.
