Our Founding

The company that would become Lee Auto Malls was co-founded by Joseph Lifshitz and Lewis Bernstein in Auburn in 1936. Starting with $1,100 in cash and three used cars on consignment, "Advance Auto Sales" quickly grew to be the largest DeSoto-Plymouth dealership in Maine.

Under the leadership of Lifshitz's son, Shepard "Shep" Lee, Lee Auto Malls grew to become one of Maine's largest car dealership groups. Today, we are Maine's No. 1 volume auto dealer, with 13 new car franchises. The company is third-generation family-owned and operated: Adam Lee serves as Chairman of the Board and Donald Lee is company president. Life-long family friend John Isaacson is the company CEO.

We are Maine's No. 1 Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram dealer and we sell more hybrid vehicles than anyone else in the state. Each of our new car stores maintains a full inventory of used cars, as well as state-of-the-art repair facilities and fully stocked parts stores.

Lee Auto Malls sells more used cars than any other dealer in Maine. We operate 9 stand-alone used car stores in Maine: LeeCars/Lee Credit Express stores in Augusta, Norway, and Saco; and Lee Credit Now stores in Bangor, Brewer, Ellsworth and Newport. Our used car inventory is the largest and most diverse in Maine.
