Lee Auto Mall is pleased to partner with United Way of Androscoggin County for their 13th Annual Backpack program. Every summer, United Way hosts the Backpack Project to supply backpacks filled with school supplies for the upcoming school year. The Backpack Project is one of many ways that United Way works to increase the academic success and high school graduation rates for students in our region.

“Together we can inspire children and give them the tools to succeed in school,” says Joleen Bedard, Executive Director at United Way of Androscoggin County. “Back to school rituals are how we let our children know that education is important. This is supposed to be a wonderful time for children, filling them with anticipation, confidence and motivation. It’s how we let them know that we believe in them and their ability to succeed in school.”

United Way of Androscoggin County plans to fill and distribute 1,000+ backpacks thanks to the generosity of Lee Auto Malls and other individual and corporate sponsors. Children across the state are in need as they return to the classroom after a very challenging year dealing with a global pandemic. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit the United Ways of Maine website at www.unitedwaysofmaine.org and select your geographic location to make a gift.

Lee’s sponsorship of the Backpack Project is part of our LeeCares initiative, a $100,000 commitment Lee has made to community support in 2021. Earlier this year, Lee provided lunches to health-care workers fighting the pandemic; celebrated Maine’s top teachers; and provided support for Maine’s farmers markets.

“At Lee Auto Malls, we have always felt a responsibility to give back to our communities,” said Lee Auto Malls Chairman Adam Lee. “At a time when many businesses and organizations are struggling, we feel it is more important than ever to step up and support the people and institutions that make Maine a wonderful place to live and work.”
